Marvin Groves Electric Company is a Native American-owned small business that was founded in Wichita Falls, TX in 1974. Although it was initially just an electrical contractor, this company has successfully expanded into all phases of construction including architecture-engineering services and design-build services. NWT PTAC started working with Mr. Groves in October of 2003 when he decided to actively pursue government contracting opportunities. In conjunction with the Midwestern State Unversity Small Business Development Center, NWT PTAC helped Mr. Groves resolve eligibility issues which enabled the company to become certified in the SBA 8a Business Development Program. In addition, NWT PTAC advised Mr. Groves on how to market his business to federal and state agencies, notified him of contracting opportunities, and facilitated meetings with DoD contracting agencies.

As a result of this assistance, Mr. Groves succeeded in winning a number of major DoD contracts. Between 2003 and 2007 the company’s revenues doubled each year. Since 2007 those revenues have continued to increase by 60 percent each year. This growth also led to the creation of 25 new jobs for the company.

In recognition of their accomplishments, the company was awarded the Jeffrey Butland Family-Owned Business of the Year Award in 2007 by the Dallas/Fort Worth District Office of the Small Business Administration. According to Marvin Groves, “Anytime we’ve had a business/contracting question or required help correcting a problem, NWT PTAC and the MSU SBDC have always gotten us the answer we needed.”
